Company check in Poland

company search

If you are looking for a business partner in Poland and you are wondering how to find information about a Polish company and check whether the company you are interested in exists and is well. There are several online sources that can help you with this task, depending on the type and status of the company.

Here are some steps you can follow to find information about a Polish company:

1. Identify the type of company you are dealing with. There are different types of companies in Poland, such as sole proprietorships, civil law partnerships, limited liability companies, registered partnerships, etc. The type of company determines which register it belongs to and what data is available about it as well as which service you should use to make a company check in Poland.

2. Use the appropriate register to search for the company.

The main registers that contain information about Polish companies are:

  • CEIDG – Central Register and Information on Economic Activity:

    • The register is dedicated to sole proprietors, self-employment and civil partnerships of natural persons, a partnership company, plc, and other business activities of natural persons.

    • You can search for a company by name, address, NIP (tax identification number), or REGON (statistical identification number). You can also see the status, activities, and contact details of the company.

    • The registry includes information on Polish and EU citizenship conducting business in Poland.

  • KRS – National Register of Court

    • The register is dedicated to all legal entities including Ltd, inc., joint-stock companies, foundations, and other legal entities.

    • The registry includes detailed current information on the company such as company name, addresses, id numbers, the board of directors, how the company should be represented by the board, shares, amount of the share capital, etc. Additionally, the registry offers brief reports on changes made during the company's lifetime.

    • You can also check the financial reports of the legal entity, including financial statements and directors' reports.

    • You can also check the company files including the articles of association, all the changes and resolutions of the company - this however requires a presence in the court or to hire a company who will make it for you.

    • The registry includes information on the entities established in Poland as well as branch offices and representative offices of foreign entrepreneurs.

  • REGON – Central Statistical Office registry

    • The registry includes information on the entities established in Poland

    • The registry shows the basic information on the company

  • VAT whitelist – a Polish Ministry of Finance register of VAT taxpayers

    • The register includes information on VAT taxpayers from all over the world that are registered for VAT in Poland.

3. Verify the reliability and reputation of the company.

Besides checking the basic data of the company, you may also want to assess its financial situation, creditworthiness, payment history, legal disputes, etc. There are various sources that can provide you with this information, such as:

  • Business intelligence companies or detective agencies that offer services of obtaining data on the activity of business entities for a fee.

  • Online platforms or databases aggregate information from public and private sources and provide ratings or reports on Polish companies for a fee or for free.

  • Online forums or social media where you can find reviews or opinions from other customers or partners who have cooperated with the company.
